TestimonialsWe were introduced to Alexander & Co in 1986 during our MBO after our initial advisors could only negotiate with our backers that we would be given 20% of the equity. Alexander & Co turned the deal on its head and, with the support of one of their business angels, Eddie Brady and I ended up with 84% of the share capital. They subsequently engineered and helped us obtain funding for the acquisition of a major competitor and have been a constant source of support and strategic advice on all aspects of our business and taxation affairs. This support has given us the confidence to develop from a £4million turnover with 40 staff to our present £75million and 500 employees. MD's want to concentrate on running their business while their advisors concentrate on all the business advisory and regulatory problems faced by a company the size of Stax. I want to be able to sleep at night; Alexander & Co allow me to do that. David Hibbert – Joint Managing Director _______________________________________________________________________ In 1989 I had my first meeting with Alexander & Co. It didn't go quite as I expected. They were talking to us because I had felt that we needed a change of auditors, possibly a more 'hands on' firm of accountants, to work with and they had been recommended to me. What I got was much more. They asked me to tell them about the business and they then asked to look at our management accounts to help understand the numbers in the business. Within 5 minutes they asked me questions to which I had no answers. Answers? I hadn't even thought about the questions before. And the answers, when we discussed the questions further, were in fact very simple and very clear. It was simple. Change the way you do business and become profitable or carry on and go bust. That was in the first half hour! I immediately began to put these suggestions into action and over the next couple of years McGuffie Brunton went from being marginally profitable to become a very profitable company. The results of our continued partnership over the following years obviously could never have produced such dramatic results, but they have certainly continued in a similar manner. Alexander & Co. went on to help us to secure funding for the purchase of our offices, they brought to us a company in which we subsequently acquired a 40% shareholding, they brought us banks to help us fund further acquisitions. On top of this we use them all of the time for complex issues, like tax, as sounding boards for longer term business strategy (as you can only do with professionals who know you and your business inside out) and as friends who I can call with questions on just about any subject. If you are just looking for a firm of auditors then you can go anywhere. My experience says that you need much more; which is what I have found with Alexander & Co. Paul Murray _______________________________________________________________________ Alexander & Co were an integral part of guiding MKM to a successful management buy-out from the British Airways Group and the subsequent flotation on the AIM Stock Market Alexander & Co are insightful, dedicated, experienced and trustworthy. Having experienced and worked with the big four accountants I will continue to put my trust and faith in Alexander & Co. Mark Koch _______________________________________________________________________ I volunteered a reference for Alexander & Co after successful completion of the deal selling my company. This wasn't just the jubilation and relief at getting the cash. My satisfaction with Alexander & Co began from the very outset. After struggling with various 'advisers', I was immediately impressed by their ability to analyse and communicate in a common sense manner on the complex issues involved. They understood the precious nature of the company I'd built up, my desire to retire and the risks involved in the tough commercial haggling. This was a thoroughly professional service based on old fashioned values. I would recommend them and remind any prospective vendor that they are going to have to work with their representatives over a longish and highly stressful period. J R Smitham - CEO |
